WANTAGE MAN KELVIN FIELDING JAILED FOR SHOCKING CHILD ABUSE AND ONLINE GROOMING
Police investigating a paedophile jailed for more than six years have described his behaviour as 'shocking'.Kelvin Fielding, of Post Office Lane, Wantage, sent messages in November 2022 to a fake online account portraying a nine-year-old girl, who was an undercover officer's fake step-daughter.
Fielding was sentenced to a total of six years and eight months for this offence, along with charges of exposure, assaulting a police officer, making indecent images of children, and distributing such images.
The investigation revealed that he had multiple indecent images on his devices, including four in category A, fourteen in category B, and 105 in category C, as well as possession of an extreme pornographic video and distribution of two category C images.
In January 2024, officers found him to have behaved deplorably during device checks, where he put his arms around an officer, touched her bra strap, and exposed himself after being told he was under arrest.
Public protection manager PC Richard Farnell stated: “The investigation into Kelvin Fielding was a complex one, involving numerous departments within the PVP (Protecting Vulnerable People) umbrella, incorporating partner agencies and other police forces to bring him to justice.
He assaulted and exposed himself to colleagues, and our pursuit of justice was not derailed by this shocking behaviour, and his sentence reflects this and the seriousness of his offences.” The court heard that the fake account setup was part of an operation by the police, and Fielding believed he was engaging with a girl who didn't exist, which led to planning and concern over his intentions.
The judge, Michael Gledhill KC, described his actions as deplorable and emphasized that the sentence and an indefinite sexual harm prevention order were issued to protect the public from further harm.
