WOMAN WHO TOOK OVER HER PRESCRIBED PAINKILLERS 'ATTEMPTED TO KIDNAP' TWO CHILDREN IN DERBY
Kelly Shepherd approached two children in two separate incidents at The Entertainer store in intu Derby last December. The 38-year-old had taken over her prescribed amount of painkillers and had no recollection of the offences.
CCTV footage showed her grabbing one child by the hand before a parent pulled the child back; she also reached out to another child's hand, resisting momentarily.
The incidents left the children affected, with one becoming "clingy" ever since.
Shepherd had several problems and was prescribed an opiate-based painkiller; she had taken a higher dosage than prescribed that day.
During the court hearing, Judge Robert Egbuna described her behavior as "completely out of this world," noting she suffers from anxiety and an opioid dependency, with a history of past abuse.
She was handed a two-year community order, including 60 rehabilitation activity requirement days, and ordered to undergo two-monthly reviews to monitor her progress.
