HITCHIN WOMAN JAILED AND GIVEN ASBO FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES AND NUISANCE
A sex offender named Kellie Slater has been sentenced after offering personal services to drivers and committing multiple offenses.She was issued with an Anti-Social Behaviour Order (ASBO), received a 12-month jail sentence, and will remain on the sexual offenders register for the next 10 years.
Evidence indicated that the 24-year-old, a former crack cocaine addict and a resident of Letchworth, had offered sexual services to stay at a hostel in Baldock and had committed several criminal acts including theft and sexual assault.Slater was found guilty at Luton Crown Court on Friday of four counts of theft, including a £600 phone, and one count of sexual assault.
On several occasions, she approached lone male drivers, asked for money, and then offered sexual services in exchange.
One incident on February 10, 2007, involved her flagging down a car, asking the driver for money, and grabbing his testicles, threatening to accuse him of attempted rape if he called the police.
Prosecutor John Shaw described her attitude, quoting her as saying, "Some blokes would like this." Judge Mensah stated, "A 12-month sentence will enable the probation service to attach conditions to it, and I hope they will help you in your rehabilitation." The court imposed two specific ASBO conditions: first, not to cause or attempt to cause any motor vehicle traveling on any road to stop due to her presence unless in a genuine emergency; second, not to offer personal sexual services in exchange for money to drivers or passengers.
Additionally, her child has been sent to live with family in Scotland, and she may try to move back into the North Herts Sanctuary in Hitchin.Chief Inspector Geoff Camp of North Herts police commented, "This woman caused inconvenience, nuisance, and distress to many drivers.
Thanks to police work, she was arrested, convicted, and given an order to prevent further incidents.
I thank the public for their help." Slater, who had committed up to six incidents a day, mostly at night, had been in custody for 175 days and is expected to be released soon.
