KEITH TOLLEY FROM BEWDLEY JAILED FOR MOLESTATION OFFENSES IN WORCESTER
In February 2006, a man from Bewdley was sentenced to prison for serious sexual offenses involving a young girl. Keith Tolley, aged 59, residing on York Road, Bark Hill, Bewdley, was found guilty by a jury of multiple counts related to the abuse of a schoolgirl. The charges included three counts of sexual assault and two counts of causing a child to engage in sexual activity, as detailed during the proceedings at Worcester Crown Court.According to court reports, Tolley's misconduct involved manipulative and disturbing acts. He persuaded the young victim to wear a pair of fake breasts, which he then put on himself. The court heard that he touched her with a plastic phallus and his hands, engaging in inappropriate and illegal conduct that caused significant concern and distress.
The case drew additional attention when Tolley's wife submitted a letter to the judge, expressing her unwavering support for her husband despite the allegations and conviction. Her stance was noted during the sentencing, highlighting the complex personal circumstances surrounding the case.
Judge David McEvoy QC addressed Tolley directly, emphasizing the gravity of his actions. He remarked that Tolley was fortunate to be married to a woman described as a 'fine woman,' who would also be affected by his imprisonment. The judge sentenced Tolley to 12 months in prison and ordered him to register as a sex offender for a period of ten years. Furthermore, Tolley was permanently barred from working with children, reflecting the severity of his crimes.
During the sentencing, defense lawyer Tim Sapwell stated that since the conviction, Tolley had begun to accept responsibility for his actions. He expressed confusion over how Tolley, described as a somewhat simple character lacking judgment at times, could have committed such offenses in May of the previous year. The case underscores the importance of safeguarding children and the ongoing efforts of the justice system to address sexual misconduct.
