KEITH NEWMAN FROM SALE JAILED FOR MOLESTATION OF SEVEN-YEAR-OLD BOY IN MANCHESTER
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Sale and the wider Manchester area, Keith Newman, aged 39, was sentenced to 18 months in prison after being found guilty of repeatedly molesting a seven-year-old boy. The heinous acts took place in Sale, where Newman resided on Sefton Crescent, and have left lasting scars on the young victim.According to court reports, Newman engaged in these criminal acts after consuming alcohol and smoking cannabis, which appeared to impair his judgment and led to his predatory behavior. The young boy, who was only seven at the time, was subjected to repeated sexual abuse by Newman, an ordeal that has had profound effects on his development. The child has reportedly become sexually precocious, capable of discussing explicit sexual topics, a direct consequence of the abuse he endured.
Newman's arrest came two years after a different child initially made a complaint against him. Although that initial complaint was not actively pursued by authorities at the time, the boy later confided in the police about the abuse he suffered at Newman's hands. This revelation prompted a thorough investigation, culminating in Newman's arrest and subsequent trial.
During the proceedings at Minshull Street Crown Court in Manchester, Newman appeared in the dock with a smirk on his face and folded his arms, displaying a lack of remorse. Judge Leslie Hull sentenced him to 18 months in prison and ordered him to register as a sex offender for the next ten years. Additionally, Newman was prohibited from having any unsupervised contact with children, a measure aimed at protecting potential future victims.
The judge addressed Newman directly, stating, "It seems clear the boy had been damaged and disturbed by what you did to him. He is sexually precocious and that is causing problems for him."
Prosecutor Miss Joanna Rodikis explained that the offences were uncovered in December 2006. She noted that the young victim had not spoken out earlier because he felt threatened by Newman, which delayed justice. Newman’s criminal history includes previous convictions for dishonesty and affray, indicating a pattern of problematic behavior.
In his defense, Miss June Morris, representing Newman, claimed that her client had expressed remorse for his actions and was suffering from depression. The case also drew emotional reactions from the public gallery, where two women, visibly upset and weeping, expressed their gratitude when the judge announced Newman’s imprisonment, underscoring the community’s outrage and desire for justice in this disturbing case.
