ISLE OF WIGHT MAN JAILED FOR DOMESTIC ABUSE AND STRANGLING DOG
An Isle of Wight man named Keith Harrison, residing at Sandown Bay Holiday Park in Yaverland, has been sentenced to over two years in jail for serious assault on his partner and the strangulation of her dog. Harrison, aged 56, pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm and inflicting unnecessary suffering on a dog through strangulation during an incident that took place on August 25 of the previous year. The court heard that at the time, Harrison was at home with his partner, and they had spent the day engaging in activities like putting up shelves and having a barbecue without incident. However, late into the night, after his partner went to bed, Harrison began playing music loudly. When she asked him to lower the volume, he responded with abuse, and then he picked up her small dog, Winston, by the scruff of the neck and strangled him. The partner recorded the incident, capturing the dog's scream and yelp in pain, along with Harrison's threat to her, stating he would 'finish her off.' Harrison also pushed her to the floor and kicked her head, injuring her face and neck. She documented her injuries and provided them to the police, along with a full sound recording of the event. A neighbor also recorded part of the incident. Although initially denying the events, Harrison was eventually convicted. During the hearing, his victim described his behaviour as 'unpredictable' and 'frightening.' His defense lawyer stated Harrison was remorseful and that his alcohol and drug use contributed to his actions, noting he has tried to address these issues. Harrison has an extensive criminal record, with seven previous convictions for nine offences linked to domestic violence against four partners, some with restraining orders. The judge, William Ashworth, sentenced him to 27 months in prison and imposed a ten-year restraining order forbidding contact with his victim. Harrison reacted to the sentence with a thumbs-up and a comment, 'Cheers mate,' while a supporter in the gallery shouted that he had 'just signed a man's death sentence.'
