MAN SENTENCED TO FIVE YEARS FOR VIOLENT RAPE IN SOUTH TYNESIDE
A sex attacker who cut open his victim's night-clothes with a knife before he raped her has been sentenced to five years in prison.Keith Halcrow, who was 50 years old at the time, had been out drinking with the woman he knew prior to the incident and later returned to her home in South Tyneside to watch television.
According to prosecutors, the situation turned violent after a petty argument, during which he tore the telephone from the wall, pushed her onto the landing, and held her down with his hand over her mouth.
He then armed himself with a vegetable knife, as described by Penny Moreland, the prosecutor. The victim, bleeding and in pain, tried to remain calm, but Halcrow followed her into her bedroom after she announced she would go to bed and asked him to leave.
It was then that he raped her.
A jury convicted Halcrow of multiple charges including rape, assault, false imprisonment, and intimidation after a trial that lasted a week.
Despite the guilty verdict, Halcrow denied all charges, claiming that she was a willing participant and had fabricated the story to claim compensation for injuries.Sentencing details and further comments are not included in the article, but the court process resulted in Halcrow being jailed for five years for his crimes.
