MAN STASHED 1,000 PORN DVDS TO SELL
A MAN found with more than 1,000 porn DVDs in his house and car has been sentenced.Keith Davis, of Summerfield Drive, Moulton, has been given a four-month jail sentence suspended for a year, ordered to do 60 hours of unpaid work in the community and told to pay court costs of more than £1,000.
The 54-year-old had admitted 15 offences concerning breaching copyright and selling the DVDs at a previous hearing and was sentenced at Vale Royal Magistrates' Court last Wednesday.
Ian Moore, prosecuting on behalf of Cheshire Trading Standards, said Davis was caught out selling the porn twice within a matter of months.
Trading standards officers, posing as members of the public, arranged to meet Davis at Hartford picnic area on April 21.
His house was searched in June and 412 DVDs and three computers were seized.
Officers noticed he continued to advertise his business and arranged another test purchase on September 27 when 118 DVDs were found in his car.
His home was searched again and 525 DVDs seized.
Mr Moore said: "The problem with them is that they are all copies and all breach the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act in one way or another." Stephen Fearns, defending, said Davis turned to selling porn to help him out of debt.
He said: "Mr Davis's wife suffers with a terminal illness and is living on borrowed time.
"He was doing everything he could to try to make life as comfortable as possible for her final years.
"As a result the family incurred a lot of debt - because of this financial situation he found himself in this position." "He's never been in trouble before, this is his first conviction and he's been caused great embarrassment by the nature of the charges."
