KEIRON YATES JAILED FOR CONTROLLING AND COERCIVE BEHAVIOR SPANNING EIGHT YEARS
Controlling Keiron Yates degraded, abused and assaulted his partner for more than eight years.The 28-year-old called her 'every name under the sun' during their relationship.
On one occasion he spat at her - and on another he threw a remote control which left her with a cut.
But his partner retracted her support for the prosecution and the pair intend to continue with their relationship.
Now Yates has been jailed for 18 months at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court.
Prosecutor David Farley said the victim was in a relationship with Yates from October 2016.
But his behaviour towards her began to change in January 2017.
He said: "He said to her, 'Shut up, you f****** rat'.
He apologised for his behaviour and stated it would not happen again.
However, in August that year he called her a 'fat c***, a fat bitch, a fat slag', and said, 'You are a disgusting sket'." "He was abusive towards her.
She used to visit him at his address.
He said, 'Look at you, you are a f****** state'.
He slapped her.
He apologised for his behaviour.
She was unsettled following that incident.
He continued to be abusive.
He called her a fat slag.
In August 2017 he attended her parents' address.
She had returned from bingo with her mother and noticed he was at the end of the street in a car.
He was abusive, calling her a slag and spat in her face.
In September 2017 she missed her grandmother's 80th birthday party due to the defendant's behaviour as she thought he would kick off.
The defendant was not happy she had hair extensions.
He pulled her hair causing pain to her scalp.
He struck her three times to the face.
She was able to stop her car.
In April 2019 she became aware the defendant had cheated on her.
He told her to reside with him at his aunt's house to ensure he was not being unfaithful.
In another incident in 2019 he was a back seat passenger in her car when he caused damage to the vehicle.
In 2021 he threw a remote control at her causing a black eye and cut which required glueing.
She continued with the relationship as he bombarded her with messages stating apologies and he professed his love for her.
In 2024 he damaged her property.
On December 15, 2025 he asked her to buy him some cigarettes.
He called her a fat bitch, drove in an erratic manner, and threatened to get his father's shotgun and shoot the front door of her parents' house.
She reported the situation the next day.
Yates, of Ravensmoor Road, Werrington, pleaded guilty to two charges of controlling and coercive behaviour between January 2017 and December 2025.
Mitigating, Matthew Ness, stated Yates accepts his wrongdoing despite the victim retracting her support.
His mother was a heroin addict and he was removed from her care at four.
He grew up with feelings of abandonment and is going to return to living with the victim.
Recorder Robert Smith described the conduct as 'dreadful'.
He called her names, physically abused her, and showed no shame, emphasizing that his upbringing, though troubled, did not excuse his behaviour.
