KAYLEIGH YEATS SHOCKINGLY ENDANGERS CHILD IN PITLOCHRY WITH HORRIFIC LIVING CONDITIONS

Kayleigh Yeats, a 21-year-old woman from Pitlochry, has admitted guilt to the grave offense of neglecting a four-year-old boy by subjecting him to living conditions that were both hazardous and utterly unsanitary. The disturbing state of her residence was uncovered during a routine visit by a housing officer, who was immediately struck by the overwhelming stench emanating from the property. The officer described the smell as pungent, a mixture of rotting food and cat droppings scattered across the floors, which contributed to a highly unsafe environment for the young child.

Upon inspection, the officer observed that the interior of the house was cluttered with rubbish, to the extent that doors could not be opened properly. The debris was so extensive that it hampered movement within the home, especially in the hallway. The refrigerator was found to contain food that was well past its expiration date, with some items more than two months old. Spoiled milk cartons and uneaten chicken, which appeared to have been left untouched for weeks, were among the decaying contents. The presence of house flies was notable, a clear indication of the filth and neglect present in the household.

The officer's concern for the child's welfare grew as he noted the appalling conditions in the child's bedroom. The room was nearly impassable due to debris, and damp cushions covered in mold were observed, further attracting flies. Evidence of animal neglect was also apparent, with faeces from the family cat strewn across the floor, adding to the unsanitary environment. The officer reported that the overall state of the house posed a significant risk to the child's health and safety, prompting him to escalate the matter to his superiors to ensure immediate intervention.

Further investigation revealed that the young boy was exposed to these dangerous living conditions on a daily basis, with little to no intervention from his guardian. The case was brought before Perth Sheriff Court, where Yeats faced charges related to causing unnecessary suffering to the child. Her actions, or lack thereof, were scrutinized, revealing a pattern of neglect. It was also noted that Yeats had a prior history of neglectful behavior, including a 2010 incident where she was admonished for leaving a baby alone in a hotel room for several hours.

In court, Yeats was sentenced to an 18-month community payback order, which includes supervision by social workers and the possibility of mental health treatment if deemed necessary. The case highlights her failure to meet the basic needs of the child and her role in exposing him to perilous living conditions, raising serious concerns about her capacity to care for vulnerable children in the future.
