KATY GAMMON FROM LAWRENCE WESTON SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC ANIMAL CRUELTY IN BRISTOL
Katy Gammon, a woman originally from Lawrence Weston in Bristol, was involved in a disturbing case of animal cruelty that shocked the local community and drew widespread condemnation. Born on August 15, 1986, Gammon was a former trainee solicitor who, as of September 2019, resided at Orlebar Gardens, Bristol BS11 0SQ. Her case gained notoriety after it was revealed that she had deliberately left her pet boxer dog, Roxy, to die in an abandoned property. In April 2014, Gammon admitted to the court that she had intentionally confined Roxy, a five-year-old boxer, inside the kitchen of her former home with the cruel intent of letting her starve to death. At the time, Gammon was living with her mother, yet she continued to go to work as her dog endured a slow and agonizing death. When questioned in court about her actions, Gammon responded with a chilling admission, saying, “Yes, basically,” when asked if she had deliberately locked the dog in the kitchen to die.
The tragic demise of Roxy was not discovered for approximately eight weeks. When her body was finally found, it was in such a state of decomposition that an RSPCA inspector had to use a snow shovel to lift it from the scene. Evidence presented in Bristol Magistrates’ Court detailed how Gammon had tied a rope to the kitchen door handle and secured it to a hook in the hall, effectively trapping Roxy inside. The dog, desperate to escape, clawed frantically at the door, leaving fragments of her nails and fur scattered on the floor as she tried to break free. Her death was estimated to have taken around six days, during which she suffered immensely.
As a consequence of her actions, Gammon faced legal repercussions. She was stripped of her position at the law firm Lyons Davidson and was sentenced to 18 weeks in prison. Additionally, she received a lifelong ban on owning or caring for animals, a measure intended to prevent any future cruelty.
In an update from 2018, it was reported that Gammon had become a single mother, raising a baby girl named Isabelle. The identity of the child's father remains unknown. The case remains a stark reminder of the cruelty that can be inflicted on animals and the importance of accountability for such heinous acts.
