BAKERY WORKER FROM RIDDINGS JAILED FOR LIFE FOR MURDERING HIS PARTNER ON THEIR FIRST ANNIVERSARY
A Derbyshire woman’s partner has been handed a life sentence after being convicted of killing her on their first wedding anniversary.Kain Taliby, 31, attacked Chrissie Everett-Hickson at their home following a night out.
The argument escalated, with Taliby grabbing her by the neck and striking her head on the floor multiple times.
In an attempt to conceal the assault, he tried to clean the scene before her injuries led to her death in hospital.
He faced charges of murder, though he admitted to manslaughter.
The Crown Prosecution Service did not accept this plea, leading to a trial that lasted around eleven days at Derby Crown Court.
The jury convicted him of murder.
He was given a life sentence on 28 March, with a minimum term of 18 years.
Emma Hodgson, a CPS spokesperson, stated, “Chrissie Everett-Hickson was murdered in her own home by her partner.
What initially was a disagreement during an anniversary celebration turned deadly.
The injuries sustained indicate an intent to cause grievous harm.
Her attacker’s violence was prolonged and severe, warranting today’s harsh sentence.” She further said, “Domestic violence remains a core concern for the CPS, police, and judiciary.
We are committed to prosecuting such cases vigorously.
The loss experienced by Chrissie’s family at such a young age is tragic, and I hope justice offers them some peace.
My sympathies go out to them.” The prosecution needed to establish that Tailby aimed to kill or cause serious injury, despite his claims of no harmful intent.
The extensive head injuries he caused were deemed evidence of his intent to inflict serious harm.
