KAEWAN SALIH FROM ROTHERHAM JAILED FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE AND DISTRIBUTION OF ILLEGAL IMAGES
In August 2019, a disturbing case unfolded involving Kaewan Salih, a 29-year-old man from Rotherham, who attempted to deceive authorities with a fabricated story of abduction by a masked gang.Salih claimed that he had been forcibly taken by five individuals who, during the incident, allegedly unlocked his phone and later returned it to him.
He insisted that he had no knowledge of what transpired after the supposed abduction, a story he offered when questioned by police.
However, the truth was far more troubling.
The case was brought to light after Facebook flagged suspicious activity linked to an account associated with Salih.
This prompted an investigation by Humberside Police, who visited his residence in Snaith around 8:20 pm on February 22 of that year.
During the search, officers seized his mobile phone for forensic analysis.
Further examination revealed that Salih had engaged in the sharing of highly illegal content.
Specifically, he had transmitted a three-minute video depicting child sexual abuse to four different contacts via WhatsApp.
One of these recipients was identified as a woman residing in Warsaw, Poland.
When questioned during police interviews, Salih claimed he was intoxicated at the time and could not recall the events, including the sharing of the illicit material.
Investigators also uncovered that Salih had conducted online searches for explicit content involving young girls, including phrases such as 'naughty school girls,' 'girl naked on school bus,' and other similar terms that referenced minors.
These searches indicated a disturbing interest in child exploitation.
The court was informed that Salih, an Iranian national, initially maintained a stance of denial but later pleaded guilty to multiple charges.
He admitted to one count of making an indecent image of a child and four counts of distributing such images.
His actions prompted the court to impose a significant sentence, reflecting the severity of his offenses.
Judge Paul Watson, QC, sentenced Salih to 26 months in prison, emphasizing the gravity of his crimes.
He stated, "You searched for terms involving young children, and it is that distribution that makes this case so serious that I must go against the recommendation in the report and sentence you to an immediate prison term." In addition to his imprisonment, Salih was subjected to a sexual harm prevention order that will remain in effect for the next ten years, aiming to prevent any further offenses.
Currently residing on St John’s Road in Rotherham, Salih’s case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat child exploitation and protect vulnerable victims from such heinous crimes.
