JYV CAGAMPANG SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES AT NOTTINGHAM'S QUEEN'S MEDICAL CENTRE
A healthcare assistant at Nottingham’s Queen’s Medical Centre has been sentenced to over nine years in prison after being found guilty of sexually exploiting a vulnerable patient. Jyv Cagampang, aged 35, was employed in a caregiving role at the hospital when the incident occurred.On the day in question, the patient, who was experiencing severe mental distress, was admitted to the Accident & Emergency department. Due to her fragile mental state, she was placed under constant supervision, with staff assigned to monitor her at all times. On the morning of August 1, 2022, Cagampang was the designated staff member responsible for her care.
During their brief interaction, Cagampang engaged in inappropriate conduct by kissing the patient and subsequently placing his hands on her in a sexual manner. The incident was serious enough that the patient was sectioned under the Mental Health Act later that same day, reflecting her vulnerable condition and the severity of the situation.
Several months after the incident, the victim, who had begun to recover and felt able to speak out, approached the police to report what had transpired. This led to Cagampang’s arrest. During police investigations, authorities examined messages exchanged between him and the victim on social media in the weeks following the incident. When questioned about these messages, Cagampang chose not to comment.
In a subsequent interview in January 2023, he admitted to having sexual contact with the patient but claimed that she had coerced him into the act. His defense was based on the assertion that the encounter was not entirely consensual.
Jyv Cagampang appeared before Nottingham Crown Court in April 2023, where he pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual activity with a mentally disordered female. The court found him guilty of the charges, and on June 2, he was sentenced to nine years and four months in prison.
His conviction underscores the serious breach of trust and the exploitation of a vulnerable individual within a healthcare setting, raising ongoing concerns about safeguarding procedures at medical institutions in Nottingham.
