JURAJ BADI BRADFORD SEX OFFENDER SENTENCED FOR PERSISTENT ABUSE AND PREGNANCY OF 15-YEAR-OLD GIRL
In a case that has shocked the Bradford community, Juraj Badi, a 45-year-old man originally from Slovakia, has been sentenced to an indefinite period of imprisonment following his conviction for the prolonged sexual abuse of a teenage girl.The court heard that Badi, who resided on Brandfort Street in the Lidget Green area of Bradford, engaged in repeated sexual acts with the girl over a span of time when she was just 14 and 15 years old.
Judge James Spencer QC, presiding over the case at Leeds Crown Court, delivered a stern verdict, emphasizing the danger Badi poses to the public.
The judge stated, “You used her for yourself and your own sexual gratification.
I have no doubt whatsoever that you are a dangerous man and you present a significant risk to members of the public of serious harm.
You do not see that you have done wrong.
You will abuse other children in the future, I have no doubt, if you are able.” It was revealed during the proceedings that Badi had a troubling criminal history in Slovakia, including convictions for sexual activity with a minor in 1983, a rape conviction in 1988 which resulted in a seven-year prison sentence, and another rape in 1994 for which he served an additional eight years.
Despite these prior convictions, Badi was able to reoffend in Bradford, where he was accused of engaging in sexual activity with a girl who later became pregnant as a result of their relationship.
On the second day of his trial, Badi pleaded guilty to two charges of sexual activity with a child.
Initially, he faced additional rape charges, but these were dropped after his guilty plea.
His defense lawyer, Andrew Smith, argued that the relationship was consensual, citing cultural differences between Slovakia and the UK.
Smith claimed that in Slovakia, relationships between older men and teenage girls could be considered acceptable, suggesting that the judge should take this into account.
However, Judge Spencer dismissed this argument, asserting that as an adult, Badi should have known that the girl was unable to give informed consent.
The judge emphasized that Badi’s actions demonstrated a blatant disregard for her age and vulnerability, stating, “In any event, you were not concerned in the slightest.” As a result of his conviction, Badi will serve a minimum of three years and 51 days, which is equivalent to an eight-year sentence.
However, he will not be eligible for release until the Parole Board determines that he no longer poses a threat to the public.
Detective Constable Kate Hickson, part of Operation Topaz, provided a statement following the sentencing.
She described Badi as a man who systematically abused his victim over several years, controlling her through threats and physical assaults.
Hickson praised the victim and her family for their bravery in coming forward and supporting the investigation, acknowledging the emotional toll of the case.
Hickson also urged other victims of sexual crimes to have the courage to report their experiences, assuring them that the police and justice system will handle their cases with professionalism and seriousness, aiming to deliver justice for all victims.
