JULIE GILL ABANDONS BABY IN UPSIDE-DOWN BUGGY IN BLACKPOOL PARK

In a disturbing incident that has shocked the community of Blackpool, a woman named Julie Gill was sentenced to 12 months in prison after she left a young child unattended in an upturned pram within Watson Road Park.

The incident occurred during the early hours of July 24, when a man out walking his dog made a grim discovery.

He found the toddler, who has not been identified for legal reasons, lying face down in the dirt, strapped into her buggy.

The child was exposed to the elements, with no coat, shoes, or blanket to keep her warm.

Her face bore dirt and grazes, and she was dressed only in a soiled nappy.

The scene was both heartbreaking and alarming, raising serious concerns about the child's safety and well-being.

The court heard that Julie Gill, aged 44, was responsible for caring for the child at the time.

Instead of fulfilling her duties, she had gone on a drinking spree, consuming lager and vodka at a local pub before heading to the Duple Club on nearby Bond Street.

Witnesses testified that Gill left the club around midnight, pushing the pram with the child inside, and then disappeared into the night.

According to reports, Gill continued drinking after leaving the club, and at around 4 a.m., she was heard shouting by a neighbor, claiming she had lost her keys.

During this time, the child was no longer with her.

The following morning, a dog-walker noticed the overturned pram in Watson Road Park.

When he attempted to tip it over, he found it was surprisingly heavy, and upon further inspection, discovered the sleeping child underneath.

Police investigations revealed that Gill had been drinking at her home in Lindale Gardens, South Shore, prior to the incident.

Authorities used the contents of her bag, which was found near the scene, to locate her at her neighbor’s residence.

During questioning, Gill claimed she believed she had been attacked and had no memory of the events after leaving the club.

She also stated that another woman was supposed to be caring for the child.

Judge Robert Altham, presiding over the case at Preston Crown Court, expressed grave concern over the neglect.

He stated, “She could have died,” emphasizing the potential dangers the child faced, including attack by animals, abduction, or suffocation due to her position in the pram.

The judge highlighted the severity of the neglect, noting that the child was vulnerable, cold, frightened, and in pain from sitting in a soiled nappy for hours.

Judge Altham condemned Gill’s actions, saying, “You that night chose to prioritize your desire to drink on a night out over the need of the child to be protected from serious harm, or worse.” He pointed out that despite the summer season, the child was not dressed appropriately and would have been cold and scared in the dark, abandoned by the person responsible for her care.

The court also heard that Gill was under significant financial and emotional stress at the time of the incident.

She pleaded guilty to child cruelty and was visibly emotional during the proceedings, sobbing throughout the hearing.

The case has raised serious questions about parental responsibility and the importance of safeguarding vulnerable children in the community of Blackpool.
