MAN JAILED FOR LIFE FOR MURDERING HIS BROTHER IN STEPNEY
A man has received a life sentence after being convicted of killing his older brother by strangulation at their family residence in London's East End.
Juhel Ahmed, aged 30, was found responsible for the death of 36-year-old Ruhel Ahmed in their shared home in Stepney’s Timor House on Duckett Street.
The judge at the Old Bailey sentenced him yesterday, with a minimum of 12 years to be served before eligibility for parole, following his conviction on Friday.
Police and emergency services were called to the flat at approximately 7.15pm on September 3, where they found Ruhel’s body in the bedroom.
It is believed that he had been dead for about a week, with the murder occurring around August 28.
An autopsy conducted at Poplar Mortuary on September 5 concluded that death was caused by neck compression.
Family members informed investigators that Juhel was responsible for the killing.
The brothers had a history of disputes, including an argument over damaged plant pots just prior to the murder.
After the altercation, Juhel sought medical treatment for injuries to his hand.
The police arrived at the flat a week later, and after questioning him, Juhel was arrested and formally charged on September 7.
