SWINDON SEX OFFENDER JAILED FOR ABUSING GIRL UNDER 13
A Swindon sex offender has been sentenced to four years in prison after abusing a girl under the age of 13.The offender, Joshua White, who resides on Lennox Drive in Walcot, was found guilty of putting his hands down his victim's pyjamas onto her genitals.
The victim provided a powerful statement detailing the impact of the assault, saying, “I cannot put into words the impact this has had on my life.” She explained that initially she thought the incident was a misunderstanding when White got into her bed, and she expressed disbelief and horror when she had to tell the police.
The victim described how seeing White afterwards caused her to break down crying and feel her heart race.
She said, “Him going to prison does not change anything - it does not make it go away,” adding that she lost confidence and resorted to self-harm for relief.
After the assault, she locked herself in a bathroom and was screaming.
The jury previously convicted White of one count of sexual assault of a child under 13.
It was also noted he has a prior conviction for possession of an offensive weapon in public.
White's defense argued he still denied guilt and suffers from health issues including anxiety and depression, having been hospitalized for a mental breakdown in 2019-2020.
The judge, Gordon Bebb KC, commented that this case showed an escalation from previous crimes and highlighted White's lack of remorse, especially noting his yawning during the sentencing.
White received a four-year prison sentence, an indefinite section 92 register, a 10-year sexual harm prevention order, a three-year restraining order, and a surcharge of £190.
The victim expressed relief that White will be on the sex offenders register, believing it will prevent him from moving on with his life.
