JOSHUA KERMATH SHAMES BLAIRGOWRIE WITH HOMOPHOBIC OUTBURST AGAINST SCHOOL STAFF

A man with a history of resentment has publicly admitted to engaging in a homophobic tirade against a staff member from Blairgowrie High School, an incident that has now led to legal action. Joshua Kermath, aged 22, was involved in a confrontation with the school employee during an evening in Blairgowrie, which culminated in serious allegations of verbal abuse and offensive gestures.

According to reports, the incident took place in Blairgowrie’s Allan Street in November 2019. The victim, who was out socializing at a local bar with friends, was approached by Kermath, who questioned him about a detention he had received during his time at Blairgowrie High School. The encounter quickly escalated when Kermath responded with a homophobic slur directed at the victim, accompanied by obscene gestures, including the middle finger.

The victim, shocked and distressed by the aggressive behavior, promptly reported the incident to the police. This report led to Kermath’s subsequent arrest and court proceedings. During the hearing at Perth Sheriff Court, Kermath admitted to behaving in a threatening and abusive manner, and to making repeated homophobic remarks towards the school staff member.

Legal representatives for Kermath argued that the incident occurred several years ago and that he was unaware of the victim’s sexual orientation at the time, suggesting that the insult was not specifically targeted but rather a general offensive remark. Despite this, Sheriff Francis Gill emphasized that such conduct was entirely unacceptable and warranted appropriate punishment.

In the court’s judgment, Kermath was fined £270 along with a £20 victim surcharge. The sheriff acknowledged that Kermath had taken responsibility for his actions, but underscored the importance of condemning such behavior to uphold community standards and respect for all individuals.
