JOSHUA CROMPTON SENTENCED IN EASTBOURNE FOR BRUTAL ABUSE AND VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMAN

In a case that has shocked the Eastbourne community, Joshua Crompton, a 27-year-old man residing on Bedfordwell Road, has been handed a significant prison sentence following a series of violent and controlling acts against a woman over nearly two years. The disturbing timeline of events stretches from 2022 until December 2024, during which Crompton engaged in a pattern of coercive behavior and physical assaults aimed at his victim.

One of the most alarming incidents occurred in March 2023, when Crompton's violence escalated to a terrifying level. He reportedly held a knife to the woman's throat and strangled her until she lost consciousness, an act that left her in a state of shock and fear. This brutal assault was just one of many instances where Crompton sought to manipulate and dominate his victim, who is now 21 years old. Throughout this period, he attempted to control her relationships and exhibited paranoid tendencies that often manifested in violent outbursts.

The victim, after enduring months of abuse, finally decided to come forward and reported the abuse to police on December 20, 2024. Her courage in speaking out revealed numerous episodes of Crompton's attempts to exert control over her, including physical violence and threats. During the police call, Crompton's aggression flared again when he attacked her while she was on the line with law enforcement, forcing her to seek refuge in a nearby business premises. This violent act led to his immediate arrest and subsequent charges.

Following his arrest, Crompton faced multiple serious allegations, including four counts of intentional strangulation, three counts of assault, coercive and controlling behavior, stalking, threatening her with an offensive weapon, and criminal damage. His case was brought before Lewes Crown Court, where he pleaded guilty on January 25 to two counts of intentional strangulation, two counts of assault, and criminal damage. The court accepted his pleas, and the remaining charges were dropped. On February 7, Crompton was sentenced to three years in prison and was issued an indefinite restraining order to prevent any further contact with the victim.

Detective Constable Tania Snashall commented on the case, emphasizing the profound and lasting harm caused by Crompton's actions. She praised the victim's bravery in reporting the abuse, which ultimately led to Crompton's incarceration. Her efforts not only protect her from further harm but also serve to prevent him from harming others in the future, allowing her the opportunity to begin the process of rebuilding her life amidst the trauma she endured.
