COPTHORNE MAN JAILED FOR RAPING WOMEN WITH LEARNING DIFFICULTIES IN HORSHAM GRAVEYARD
Jordan Tobutt, an unemployed man from Church Road, Copthorne, was sentenced to 11 years in prison at Hove Crown Court on February 10, 2017, for raping two women with learning difficulties in a graveyard off Denne Road in Horsham.
The court found him guilty of attacking a 35-year-old woman in April 2016 and a 26-year-old woman during 2013-2014.
Tobutt was acquitted of additional charges including a rape of the first woman, and two other counts of rape and attempted rape involving the second woman, as well as a rape of a third woman at an address in West Sussex.
Furthermore, he will be registered as a sex offender for life and has been subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) that severely restricts his access to vulnerable individuals.
Judge Janet Waddicor described him as "manipulative and devious," emphasizing that "your methods are not sophisticated but they don’t need to be.
The people you exploit are extremely vulnerable." Detective Constable Dani Flude acknowledged the sensitive nature of the investigation, noting that "both the offender and his victims have learning difficulties, but it was clear that he was much less vulnerable than them."
