COUNTY DURHAM MAN SENTENCED TO FOUR YEARS FOR ASSAULT AND THREATS TO KILL PARTNER
A man named Jordan Storey was convicted for a prolonged assault and threats to kill his partner.According to court reports, Storey warned his partner not to return home from a friend's house, stating that "things would get violent" if she did.
His words proved to be prescient when she came home around 2.20am on January 9 and found him "smirking and snarling" at her.
He then assaulted her by grabbing her by the arm and tossing her down the stairs, causing her to land on her shoulder and lose consciousness briefly.
When she regained consciousness, she was in "horrific pain".
The court description indicates that Storey repeatedly assaulted her, including punching, kicking, damaging property, smashing bottles, and smashing her mobile phone.
He also warned her not to contact the police or he would kill her.
Storey then left but returned, again assaulting her, grabbing her hair, punching, kicking, and threatening to kill her with a meat cleaver.
She suffered multiple injuries, including a suspected dislocated shoulder, a split lip, and extensive bruising, and required hospital treatment.
The victim stated she still suffers from flashbacks and lives in the damaged house due to financial constraints.
Storey has seven convictions for 18 past offences, with only one related to violence.
During sentencing, it was highlighted that Storey has mental health issues, including an emotionally unstable personality disorder, drug dependence, and depression, partly due to losing two friends.
Durham Crown Court sentenced him to four years in prison and imposed an indefinite restraining order forbidding him from approaching the victim.
The judge noted that Storey has a propensity to hold grudges and poses a high risk of harm to partners.
