VIOLENT EX-BOYFRIEND JAILED FOR ASSAULT AND HARASSMENT IN STANLEY
A man named Jordan Newton, aged 29, from Stanley, was sentenced to 30 months in prison for a series of violent and harassing behaviors towards his ex-partner.
The court heard that Newton had been in an on-off relationship with the victim for around four years, despite him being subject to a non-molestation order forbidding contact.
Newton bombarded her with numerous phone calls and messages, claiming he wanted to discuss property matters.
On one occasion, he met her early in the morning while she was parked, became confrontational, and physically assaulted her by smashing her car window and punching her repeatedly in the head, causing injuries.
He also called her laughing and threatening her not to call the police, promising she would never see her children again.
Court proceedings revealed that Newton had 21 previous offenses, and he pleaded guilty to harassment, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, breach of a non-molestation order, and criminal damage.
The judge described his conduct as "appalling and reprehensible," and a restraining order was also issued against him.
