MAN JAILED FOR VIOLENT ATTACK ON EX AND BOYFRIEND

Jordan Kelly, aged 23, was described in court as being intoxicated and armed with a knife when he carried out a violent rampage at a block of flats in Yarm, where his former partner and her new boyfriend resided, the Teesside Crown Court heard.

Kelly was in a state of intense rage, during which he issued multiple death threats, and physically assaulted the man by punching and biting him, the court was told.

He pleaded guilty to charges that included causing actual bodily harm through assault.

Prosecutor Kevin Wardlaw outlined that Kelly and the woman had been together for approximately seven years before their relationship ended in July 2023.

He described the relationship as controlling and psychologically abusive, with Kelly reportedly taking a knife to bed and threatening to kill the woman if she tried to leave.

On September 8, Kelly went to the new residence of the woman’s current partner, who was a friend of his, and confronted him angrily.

According to Mr.

Wardlaw, Kelly made several threats to kill both the man and himself, held a knife with a 10-inch (25cm) blade against the man's throat, and inflicted multiple punches, knocking him to the ground.

He also bit the man’s arm, attempted to bite his face, and declared that if he couldn't have his ex-girlfriend, no one could.

Kelly reportedly told the male victim, "As long as you and her are dead that's worth it for me," the court heard.

There was also a struggle involving Kelly and his ex-partner, and after his arrest, he pushed a police officer against a wall and attempted to kick him.

Throughout the incident, Kelly was described as screaming with rage, and an incapacitant spray was used to subdue him.

At the hospital, Kelly told police he intended to stab the couple, indicating a desire to cause serious harm or fear.

The prosecutor emphasized that Kelly's actions aimed to intimidate or inflict severe violence.

The male victim said he genuinely feared for his life and suffered injuries, including being unable to see from one eye for three weeks.

His ex-partner stated that Kelly was obsessed with her and that she lived in constant fear of him.

During the court proceedings, Kelly, appearing via video link from HMP Durham, was seen repeatedly rolling his eyes, shaking his head, and smirking as both victim statements were read.

Kelly, from Station Road, Seamer, North Yorkshire, admitted to charges of affray, assault by beating, causing actual bodily harm, possessing a bladed article, attacking an emergency worker, and making threats to kill.

The judge, Recorder Melly KC, described the incident as a prolonged and persistent attack involving a highly dangerous weapon.

An indefinite restraining order was imposed for the protection of both victims.
