STALKER JOHN MOHAN JAILED FOR TERRIFYING CAMPAIGN OF HARASSMENT
A man with a history of abusive conduct engaged in stalking his former partner, leading to a series of dangerous incidents including colliding with her vehicle and banging on her car window, which caused her to become terrified and seek police help.John Mohan, from Nunthorpe, was described by the court as driving aggressively through a North Yorkshire town in an effort to locate the woman.
A police-recorded 18-minute call revealed the victim’s account of Mohan pursuing her in Yarm.
According to reports from Teesside Live, the victim said Mohan verbally abused her at the David Lloyd gym, shouting, swearing, and calling her an offensive term.
The distress from this confrontation caused her to leave the gym crying.
Mohan, aged 41, was arrested shortly after, but he continued to harass her, including threatening her to drop the charges against him.
In one recorded conversation, he gave her an ultimatum to dismiss the case by 5pm and insisted it was a misunderstanding.
Prosecutor Anne Mitchell explained that Mohan told the woman her life would fall apart if she did not follow his demands.
The victim also reported that Mohan damaged CCTV cables at her home while supposedly collecting gym clothes from beside her property.
The two had been in a relationship for three years, ending in March, after which Mohan sold a Range Rover Sport a month later, amid ongoing disputes.
Mohan appeared in court on October 4, wearing a distinguished burgundy three-piece suit.
He admitted guilt to charges of witness intimidation and damaging cables but denied stalking.
Evidence was presented that he entered the David Lloyd gym on May 4—using a guest pass— and reacted angrily upon seeing his ex there, shouting insults and calling her offensive words.
The victim described her feelings of embarrassment and fear, stating she hid in the bathroom for several minutes before leaving, only to find Mohan waiting outside.
She reported receiving an abusive email about her cleaning her former husband's car, which increased her distress.
The court also covered an incident from May 6, when she saw Mohan’s van outside her residence, allegedly filming her.
She attempted to report him to police but claimed he followed her, bumping into her car at least three times at a roundabout without causing damage.
Later, on Green Lane, she claimed Mohan overtook her at high speed and then followed her into a petrol station, where he was seen banging on her vehicle window.
The victim was visibly upset, calling emergency services during the incident.
A witness confirmed seeing Mohan driving aggressively and nearly causing an accident.
Mohan denied trying to contact her at the petrol station or damaging her car physically.
He also admitted to following his ex but denied any damage or harassment, claiming he only wanted to speak with her and denying filming outside her property.
After his arrest, police seized his phone, though he maintained there was no evidence of filming.
The court learned that Mohan’s visits to her home were solely to retrieve his belongings, and he had not returned since.
The judge, Marie Mallon, found Mohan guilty of stalking, pointing to his abusive words at the gym, filming outside the house, and aggressive driving—including the bumping and banging incidents—as evidence.
She described the victim as credible and noted her obvious fear.
Mohan was ordered to undergo a pre-sentence report and will appear at Teesside Magistrates’ Court on November 3 for sentencing, with imprisonment possible.
