UPDATE 26/01/2026: Following a retrial this month a second jury found him not guilty of the main charges of attempted murder and causing grievous bodily harm ‘with intent’.He was however convicted him of the less serious alternative offence of inflicting grievous bodily harm.
Herring, from Solihull and now 22, had already been remanded into custody and is due to be sentenced on April 13.
———————————————————————— He stated that he subsequently decided to 'shield her from view', firstly by taking her to his grandmother's home.
The jury was told the girl's family became concerned and called the police, prompting Herring 'premeditated' the decision to throw her out of the window from the spare room of the flat, by removing the curtain pole and unlocking the safety catch inside the window frame to fully open it.
CCTV footage showed her falling onto the ground at 11.22pm on November 12, 2022.
"She survived that fall but with serious injuries.
She didn't remember the fall itself but recalled Herring grabbing her before she fell, holding her near the window and saying, 'I will throw you out, I will kill you'.
He then woke his mother to help collect her body.
Herring, then 22, from Solihull, stands trial at Birmingham Crown Court, where he denies attempted murder.
The prosecutor described the fall as being more than 37 feet, with the girl suffering multiple severe injuries including a collapsed lung, ruptured spleen, liver cut, and fractured ribs, spine, and pelvis.
Herring was also convicted of coercive and controlling behaviour against the teenager following a previous trial.
