JORDAN HAYWARD FROM BRIDPORT SENTENCED AFTER DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND SELF-INJURY INCIDENT
In a serious case of domestic violence that unfolded in Bridport, a man identified as Jordan Hayward, aged 30, was brought before Bournemouth Crown Court to face charges stemming from an assault on his pregnant girlfriend. The incident, which took place shortly after 1am on March 14, resulted in the victim sustaining multiple injuries, including a raised, bruised lump on her brow, a bruised eye, a cut lip, and a bleeding nose. The court heard that following the attack, the victim managed to seek help from a neighbor, who was then prompted to contact the police to report the assault.According to police reports, Hayward had been under the influence of alcohol, specifically vodka, and was not taking his prescribed medication at the time of the incident. During the police investigation, officers discovered that Hayward had also damaged the victim’s mobile phone during the altercation. In a disturbing turn of events, police found Hayward had inflicted self-harm by stabbing himself, which necessitated his immediate transportation to a hospital for treatment.
The court proceedings included a detailed account of the assault, presented by prosecutor Mr. Fairley. He also highlighted Hayward’s extensive criminal history, which includes convictions for battery, bodily harm, grievous bodily harm, affray, and assaults on police officers. The judge overseeing the case took note of Hayward’s long-standing pattern of violence and problematic behavior, emphasizing his troubled background, poor work ethic, and ongoing issues with substance abuse.
During sentencing, the judge remarked on Hayward’s high risk of reoffending, citing his history of violence towards partners and his numerous court appearances—26 in total—covering 38 separate offences. The judge pointed out that this was a clear case of domestic violence and noted that Hayward showed no remorse during the pre-sentence report. Despite the severity of his past actions, the court acknowledged that Hayward had already served over 10 weeks in custody, which was taken into account when determining his sentence.
Ultimately, Jordan Hayward was sentenced to 18 weeks in prison. Due to the time already served, he is expected to be released early, but the court’s decision underscores the seriousness of his conduct and the ongoing risks associated with his behavior.
