CAITHNESS MAN RISKS JAIL IN REPEAT DOMESTIC ABUSE CASE
A repeat domestic abuse offender, Jonathan Todd, age 27, from Halkirk, has faced court proceedings after a recent offence involving him locking his former partner out in adverse weather conditions at their home on Sinclair Street on February 26.Todd has a history of domestic abuse, with this incident being his sixth conviction involving the same complainant over recent years.
He was charged with behaving in a threatening or abusive manner, acting aggressively, and making abusive remarks.
While he previously pleaded guilty, a further charge of assault was accepted as not guilty by the fiscal depute.
During the hearing at Wick Sheriff Court, Sheriff Neil Wilson advised Todd of the seriousness of his situation, stating, 'You must realise what a serious situation you are in.
This offence was your sixth conviction involving the same complainant in recent years.' Todd attempted to speak in court, but the sheriff warned him to remain silent as anything he said could worsen his case.
The court discussed the possibility of Todd being assessed for suitability for the Caledonian Programme, which offers an integrated approach to address domestic abuse perpetrated by men against female partners or ex-partners, potentially avoiding imprisonment.
Todd will return to court on July 9 to learn whether he will be sentenced to jail or if he can be diverted to the rehabilitation programme.
