JONATHAN SHREEVE FROM ALLERTON SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN LIVERPOOL

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Allerton, Liverpool, Jonathan Shreeve, a 40-year-old ukulele instructor renowned for his impersonations of George Formby, was sentenced to nearly four years in prison for a series of heinous crimes involving a young boy.

The Liverpool Crown Court heard harrowing details of how Shreeve, who was also a member of the George Formby society, exploited his position and fascination with young boys to commit multiple acts of sexual abuse.

Between May 2009 and November 2010, Shreeve engaged in a pattern of grooming and molestation against a boy aged just 11 and 12 years old.

The court was informed that he repeatedly encouraged the young victim to perform sexual acts, and on two separate occasions, he physically molested the boy.

The abuse was so severe that Shreeve even recorded the incidents, filming the boy after inciting him into sexual activity.

These recordings, along with a collection of indecent images, were discovered during the investigation.

Shreeve’s online presence was also scrutinized, revealing that his cover song videos, which have garnered thousands of views on YouTube, concealed a darker side.

Authorities found that he possessed 381 indecent images of young boys on his laptop.

Further investigation uncovered that he had saved some of these images on a memory stick and accessed them via his Sony PSP, indicating a disturbing fascination with the bodies of young boys.

Prosecutor Philip Astbury detailed how Shreeve would manipulate the young boy, persuading him to perform sexual acts.

The first incident of abuse occurred in the summer of 2009, during which Shreeve filmed the boy on his mobile phone before molesting him.

The victim later confided in police that after the abuse, Shreeve would give him sweets, a tactic often used by predators to maintain control and silence.

Shreeve’s crimes came to light in early 2010, leading to his arrest on April 14.

During police interviews, he admitted to the abuse and confessed to possessing child pornography on his laptop.

He also expressed a disturbing “fascination” with young boys’ bodies.

The court heard that he pleaded guilty to eight counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, two counts of sexual assault, and 15 counts of making indecent photographs of children.

Defence lawyer John Gibson described Shreeve as “thoroughly ashamed” of his actions, noting that he was visibly emotional as he was led into court.

Gibson emphasized that Shreeve had deleted most of the illicit images and had ceased his abusive behavior after realizing the harm he was causing.

He also highlighted that Shreeve, who led a celibate lifestyle, had no prior record of abuse and expressed remorse for his actions.

Judge Robert Warnock sentenced Shreeve to three years and ten months in prison, emphasizing the gravity of his crimes.

The judge stated, “In effect you stole his childhood.

He was entitled and remains entitled not to be abused by the likes of you and your own selfish interest in your own sexuality.” As part of his sentence, Shreeve will be required to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for life and is subject to an indefinite sexual offenders’ prevention order.

This order restricts his contact with minors and limits his use of the internet, aiming to prevent any further harm and protect the community from future offenses.
