KEVIN CAMPBELL FROM ALLERTON SENTENCED FOR VOYEURISM IN BIRKENHEAD AND LIVERPOOL
In a disturbing case that has left the community shaken, Kevin Campbell, a 58-year-old resident of Allerton, was sentenced to eight months in prison after admitting to a series of voyeurism offences committed over the span of a year.The crimes involved secretly filming individuals using public toilets, with the footage stored on Campbell's personal laptop.
The investigation was triggered when an IT company uncovered the illicit recordings in December 2020, revealing a disturbing pattern of invasive behavior.
During the sentencing hearing at Liverpool Crown Court, prosecutor David Watson read out heartfelt statements from Campbell’s victims, who continue to suffer from the trauma inflicted by his actions.
The victims described feelings of sickness, weakness, and ongoing distress, with some expressing that they no longer feel comfortable using bathrooms in public or even at home.
One victim stated, “It is sickening and I still don’t feel comfortable using a bathroom in public or at home.
I quite often find myself worrying if I am being recorded.” Another added, “I feel sick, shaken, weak and quite upset.” Campbell, who was present in court, appeared visibly distraught when questioned about the videos.
He immediately admitted his guilt, acknowledging the severity of his actions.
His defense solicitor, Jonathan Keane, urged the court to consider Campbell’s previously clean criminal record and good character.
Keane highlighted that Campbell had been on bail for 14 months, during which he claimed the defendant had shown genuine remorse and had suffered emotionally, including an attempt to take his own life due to an adjustment disorder.
Keane also pointed out that the stress of the investigation had adversely affected Campbell’s family members.
Judge Brian Cummings, QC, described the case as “not straightforward” and took into account the length of the trial, Campbell’s risk of re-offending, and his prior good record as mitigating factors.
Nonetheless, the judge emphasized the seriousness of the offences and the duration over which they were committed.
Concluding that only immediate custody was appropriate, Judge Cummings sentenced Campbell to eight months in prison.
Additionally, he imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for ten years and mandated that Campbell comply with the notification requirements associated with this order for the same period.
Campbell’s address was noted as 3 New Heys Drive, Allerton, Liverpool, and the court’s decision underscores the gravity of his crimes and the ongoing impact on his victims’ lives.
