JONATHAN ROBERTS OF TAMESIDE SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN MINSHULL STREET COURT

In July 2022, a disturbing case involving a man from Tameside who exhibited a disturbing obsession with a young child culminated in his being sentenced to prison for multiple serious sexual offences. The individual in question, Jonathan Roberts, aged 30, was brought before Minshull Street Crown Court following a series of investigations prompted by police concerns about his inappropriate behavior.

According to court proceedings, the offences took place at a residence where the young victim lived, during which Roberts visited the address. Over time, reports emerged from concerned parties about Roberts' fixation on the child, raising alarm among local authorities and prompting a detailed investigation by detectives based in Tameside.

As part of the investigation, law enforcement officials conducted a thorough search of Roberts' mobile phone. This search uncovered an indecent image of a child, further implicating him in the series of offences. The police acted swiftly, and Roberts was arrested in November 2021, following the accumulation of evidence against him.

Roberts, who was identified as having no fixed address at the time, faced multiple charges. These included one count of attempted rape of a child, two counts of engaging in sexual activity in front of a child, one count of sexual assault of a child, and possession of indecent images. During the court proceedings, Roberts chose to plead guilty to all charges.

His guilty plea led to a sentencing of more than three and a half years in prison, reflecting the severity of his crimes and the impact on the victim.
