2010: LOWER GORNAL RAPIST JAILED
A LOWER Gornal teenager, who raped an 18 year-old girl at a party has been jailed for 32 months.Jonathan Hambury, of Pleasant View, tried to kiss the victim and after she refused, she was raped, said Sati Aujla prosecuting.
She told Wolverhampton Crown Court the woman tried to push Hambury away but he ignored her pleas and left her "extremely upset and crying." Hambury admitted rape and was told by Judge Amjad Nawaz he must also register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
The judge told him he knew the young woman did not want sex but he "pressed on" adding "You must realise she was extremely distressed by what you did." Richard Atkins defending 19 year-old Hambury said: "He completely misread the situation.
When she said she did not want it to happen he pressed on regardless." He said Hambury felt "sick and terrible" about his actions and concluded: "He knows he made a terrible mistake." The court was told that Hambury, a young man of previous good character, had been drinking heavily before the incident while his victim had also downed alcohol.
