JONATHAN FENWICK FROM LANGLEY PARK ESCAPES PRISON AFTER SEX WITH 11-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN DURHAM

In a case that has sparked outrage among the victim’s family and the local community, Jonathan Fenwick, a 20-year-old man from Eldon Close in Langley Park, was recently involved in a disturbing incident that took place in Durham. The incident, which occurred in August of the previous year, involved Fenwick engaging in sexual activity with an 11-year-old girl, an act that has left many in shock and disbelief.

According to court reports, Fenwick, who was 19 at the time, gained access to the girl’s bedroom after she invited him inside. The early hours of August 8 saw Fenwick having sex with the young girl. The court was also informed that Fenwick was not alone during this encounter; he was accompanied by a friend who was involved with the girl’s older sister. The situation was interrupted when the girl’s mother entered the room, forcing Fenwick to flee through a window in a hurried attempt to escape.

Following the incident, Fenwick later turned himself in to authorities. During police questioning, he admitted to having sex with the girl but claimed he believed she was older than her actual age. The court heard that Fenwick’s belief was based on the fact that the girl had sent him explicit text messages, which, according to the prosecution, would not typically be expected from an 11-year-old. The girl had initiated contact after seeing Fenwick’s business telephone number on his work van, which was used for his car valeting business.

In a trial that examined the issue of Fenwick’s intent and understanding, Judge Christopher Prince found in Fenwick’s favor regarding the charge of statutory rape. The judge accepted Fenwick’s claim that he thought the girl was 16, not under 13. The court also noted that the girl’s mother expressed her outrage, describing the situation as “disgraceful” and emphasizing that her daughter clearly looked her age of 11.

Despite the serious nature of the offense, Judge Prince described Fenwick as “naïve” and stated that “the likelihood of a repeat is zero.” As part of his sentence, Fenwick was given a 12-month community order with probation supervision and was also placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register. The decision has been met with mixed reactions, with many feeling that justice has not been fully served given the severity of the crime and the impact on the young victim and her family.
