DUNDEE MAN CONVICTED OF BRUTAL SEX ATTACKS AND DOMESTIC ABUSE
A man from Dundee, John Williamson, has been convicted of serious sexual and domestic abuse crimes against his partner. The court heard that Williamson subjected the woman to months of violent torment and coercive control.
He was found guilty of choking the woman to the point of unconsciousness, taking control of her finances by repeatedly withdrawing money from her bank account without permission, and isolating her from her loved ones.
The jury at the High Court in Dundee returned a guilty verdict on July 16, 2025, and Williamson, aged 33, is currently remanded in custody while awaiting sentencing.
The prosecution detailed how Williamson seized the woman's keys and repeatedly locked her in their flat, deleted her messages after monitoring her social media, and made derogatory remarks, accusing her of infidelity, criticizing her appearance, and threatening her male friends.
Williamson also took her prescription medication.
The court heard how he restrained her, twisted her hand and arm causing severe injury, and on one occasion, seized her neck and restricted her breathing, leading to her losing consciousness.
During her pre-recorded testimony, the woman described how Williamson continued to have sex with her after she asked him to stop, and it was also stated that Williamson raped her.
The judge has ordered a social work report to inform the next sentencing proceedings, which are scheduled to take place next month at the same court.
Williamson of Yeamans Lane will be sentenced later.
SENTENCING UPDATE 17/08/2025 During her evidence – which was pre-recorded – the woman described how Williamson continued to have sex with her after she had withdrawn consent and asked him to stop.
The charge described separate instances of him raping her, as well as an occasion where he forcibly removed her contraceptive coil without consent.
Neil Beardmore KC, defending, said: “He recognises he’ll get the book thrown at him today.” Williamson, branded a “high risk” to females, was sentenced to six and a half years in prison.
He is now subject to the sex offender registration requirements and a non-harassment order for the rest of his life.
