JOHN WILDMAN FROM SHEERNESS SENTENCED TO 279 YEARS FOR HORRIFIC SEXUAL ABUSE IN KENT
In a chilling case that has shocked the community of Sheerness and the wider Kent region, John Wildman, aged 50, was sentenced to a cumulative total of 279 years in prison for a series of heinous sexual offenses committed over a span of two decades. The court heard that Wildman, a resident of Sheerness, was responsible for the repeated abuse of four young girls, subjecting them to a total of 20 years of relentless sexual assault.During the trial at the Old Bailey, it was revealed that Wildman’s actions were allegedly aided by his wife, Maureen. However, she was deemed too ill to stand trial and was not present in court. The severity of the abuse was underscored by a detective who described Wildman’s crimes as being worse than those committed by the notorious mass murderer Fred West, highlighting the profound impact and depravity of his actions.
The court was informed that Wildman’s predatory behavior did not cease even after the victims moved away from the area. Evidence presented indicated that he continued to visit and assault the girls, demonstrating a disturbing pattern of predatory conduct that persisted over many years.
The victims, all of whom suffered immense psychological trauma, have reportedly attempted to take their own lives, underscoring the devastating long-term effects of Wildman’s abuse. The court heard detailed accounts of the suffering endured by these young girls, which has left indelible scars.
Wildman was convicted on multiple counts, including 11 counts of rape, for which he received 22-year sentences for each. Additionally, he was found guilty of three assault charges, each carrying a five-year sentence, and one count of attempted serious assault, which resulted in a 22-year term. All sentences are to be served concurrently, meaning he will spend the rest of his life behind bars for his crimes.
