HEREFORDSHIRE UNDERTAKER JAILED FOR WIFE’S MURDER, REMAINS A MYSTERY
A man named John Taylor, aged 61, who was employed as an undertaker, was convicted on a Tuesday of murdering his wife, Alethea Taylor, at their residence in Herefordshire, and of subsequently hiding her body. Both the community and authorities have appealed to him to disclose her location.
Sebastian Bowen, a local councillor, publicly urged Taylor to 'give us the truth' so that Alethea could be laid to rest properly, pointing out that it would also assist the community in finding closure.
Taylor was given a life sentence with a minimum term of 17 years to serve.
Despite his conviction, he has not shared the whereabouts of his wife's remains.
Bowen made a direct plea, stating: 'Please, for our sake, for the community's sake and perhaps for your own sake as well, let us know where Alethea is so she can be located and given the proper funeral.' Court proceedings revealed that Taylor, who had been involved in an affair, murdered his wife around January 18 or 19, 2012.
The jury heard that he attempted to cover up his crime by claiming she was 'losing her mind.' Alethea was a familiar face locally, actively involved in community groups such as the Birchpole singers, and was described as someone who treated everyone with warmth and humor.
After her disappearance, villagers organized a search in Orleton, which uncovered deep sadness, as Taylor refused or could not reveal her remains.
Authorities and the local community remain committed to solving the case, emphasizing that 'The investigation is not going to be over until we find Alethea.'
