JOHN SIMPSON FROM HUNTLY SENTENCED AFTER THREATS AND RESISTING POLICE

John Simpson, a 32-year-old resident of Huntly, faced a court hearing where he was sentenced to serve eight months in prison following a series of alarming online threats and aggressive behavior. The incident stemmed from Simpson’s disturbing Facebook posts, in which he explicitly threatened to harm his ex-girlfriend’s mother, stating he would "slit the throat" of the woman and watch her die without pain. These threatening messages appeared after Simpson discovered that his former partner and her mother had contacted a witness involved in a separate court case concerning him, which evidently provoked his violent reaction.

In his online communications, Simpson also hurled derogatory insults at the woman’s mother, calling her a "fat mutt" and issuing threats of violence. The content of these messages caused significant concern for the victim, prompting her to alert the police authorities. The situation escalated when police officers arrived to arrest Simpson; he did not go quietly. Instead, he resisted arrest, verbally abusing the officers and physically kicking out at them. During the altercation, Simpson directed offensive language at the officers, calling one a "sheep shagger" and referring to others as "fat sluts."

Simpson admitted to charges of sending menacing messages online, resisting arrest, and engaging in threatening or abusive behavior. His defense team argued that he suffers from mental health issues and that his emotional outbursts were driven by frustration and annoyance, particularly after learning about the contact with witnesses. Despite these claims, Sheriff Morag McLaughlin took a serious view of Simpson’s actions. She sentenced him to eight months in prison and also issued a non-harassment order, which prohibits him from approaching or contacting his former partner for a period of two years. The court’s decision underscores the severity with which such threats and aggressive conduct are treated, especially when they involve threats of violence and resistance to law enforcement.
