JOHN ROBINSON FROM BISHOP AUCKLAND SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULTS ON SCHOOLGIRL
In October 2020, a disturbing case involving a pensioner from Bishop Auckland culminated in a conviction for serious sexual offenses against a young schoolgirl.John Michael Robinson, aged 65 and residing on Blackett Close, Etherley Dene, was brought before Durham Crown Court to face charges related to multiple counts of sexual assault.
The case came to light after the victim, a schoolgirl, confided in a school support worker about the abuse she had endured.
Robinson was arrested earlier this year following her disclosure.
During the investigation, it was revealed that Robinson had previously warned the girl not to tell anyone about what had happened, allegedly stating that he could face imprisonment if she did.
At the plea hearing held in August, Robinson did not deny the allegations but claimed he could not recall the specific incidents.
Instead, he admitted to six counts of sexual assault, with the court hearing that these charges encompassed a series of disturbing acts.
The first five counts pertained to particular incidents, while the sixth count involved at least ten additional assaults, indicating a pattern of predatory behavior.
Prosecutor Jane Waugh outlined the case, emphasizing the severity of the offenses and the impact on the young victim.
The court was told that Robinson’s actions had caused significant and long-lasting harm to the girl, with Judge James Adkin condemning his conduct in his sentencing remarks.
Robinson was sentenced to 80 months in prison, with an additional year of extended license upon release, reflecting the gravity of his crimes.
Furthermore, Robinson will be subject to lifelong registration as a sex offender and will be under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for life.
These measures are designed to monitor and restrict his activities to protect the community from any potential future harm.
