JOHN NARENDREN'S SHOCKING CRIMES IN HAILSHAM AND SUSSEX REVEALED

In a series of disturbing revelations, John Narendran, a former doctor from Hailsham, Sussex, has been linked to a long history of sexual offenses against young boys spanning over a decade. His criminal activities, which took place primarily during the late 1980s and the 1990s, have come to light through court proceedings and police investigations, painting a grim picture of abuse by someone in a trusted medical position.

In December 2018, Narendran was convicted at Lewes Crown Court of multiple sexual offenses committed while he was working at hospitals in East Sussex, including The Horder Centre in Crowborough and Eastbourne District General Hospital. The court found him guilty of 13 counts of indecent assault, with one count of buggery being dismissed. The victims, all young boys, had come into contact with Narendran during his medical practice at these facilities. The court heard that the earliest offense dated back to 1987, and the charges were subsequently amended to reflect 13 counts of indecent assault and one count of buggery. Narendran, who was known as 'Dr John,' was sentenced to 10 years in prison and was also subjected to a lifetime sexual harm prevention order.

Further details emerged about Narendran's disturbing methods of abuse. Court testimonies revealed that he would often use psychological manipulation and physical restraint to carry out his assaults. One particularly harrowing account described how he would blindfold young patients, sometimes tying them to hospital beds, under the pretense of helping them relax. These assaults reportedly occurred over a period of several years, with some victims only reporting the abuse after years of silence, inspired by media coverage of similar cases such as that of Jimmy Savile.

In addition to his criminal convictions, Narendran's history includes a previous conviction from 1996, when he was sentenced to 21 months in jail for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old boy. This prior conviction further underscores the pattern of predatory behavior that spanned his medical career.

In March 2019, Narendran was transferred to HMP Swaleside on the Isle of Sheppey, a high-security prison in Kent, where he remained until his death. An inquest into his passing revealed that he died of natural causes at the age of 79. His health had significantly declined in the months leading up to his death, with reports indicating he had become frail, requiring a wheelchair, and eating less. His medical history included complex cardiac issues and alcohol abuse, with a daily intake of half a bottle of wine. A post-mortem confirmed that the cause of death was ischemic hypertensive heart disease.

Trudy Taylor, a nurse at the Sheppey prison, testified that Narendran's health deteriorated rapidly in the final month of his life. She described him as a frail, elderly man whose mobility was severely limited, and who was found dead in his cell on Brabazon Road, Eastchurch. The coroner, Wood, officially ruled that his death was due to natural causes, closing the chapter on a life marred by abuse and tragedy.

These revelations about John Narendran's criminal conduct and his subsequent death have sparked widespread concern and outrage within the Sussex community, especially in Hailsham, where he resided. His case highlights the importance of safeguarding vulnerable individuals and ensuring that those in positions of trust are held accountable for their actions. The full extent of his crimes continues to be examined as more victims come forward and the legal process unfolds.
