MORAY MAN JAILED AFTER WIFE FILMS HIS ABUSIVE TIRADE
A man from Aberlour has appeared in court after his wife of 40 years recorded him being abusive towards her.John Lawson, aged 63, was at his home in Aberlour with his wife, Dorothy Lawson, when an argument arose over a meal she had prepared.
According to prosecutor Alex Swain, during the evening of Saturday, March 25, Lawson began acting aggressively, throwing a plate of food onto the floor while shouting and swearing.
He then smashed a plate at the fireplace, destroyed a wooden table, and physically struggled with his wife, grabbing her.
Ms Swain noted that Lawson told his wife she should fear him.
His wife recorded his tirade on her phone, intending to show him his behavior once he was sober, but as his anger intensified, she fled with their two dogs and called the police.
When officers arrived, Lawson was cautioned and detained after he said, 'I did not mean to scare my wife.
I just went wild and I am sorry for what I did.' He appeared in Elgin Sheriff Court on remand and admitted to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner likely to cause fear or alarm.
Lawson was given a deferred sentence until October 12 under the condition that he seeks help for his drinking problem.
His lawyer, Stephen Carty, expressed remorse on his behalf, highlighting Lawson's little recollection due to alcohol consumption and his desire to resolve his issues, with his wife wishing for him to return home once he has addressed his alcohol problems.
