JOHN DEEVER FROM WIGAN SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS FOR MULTIPLE SEXUAL ASSAULTS IN GREATER MANCHESTER
In a case that has shocked the community of Wigan and the surrounding Greater Manchester area, John Deever, a 52-year-old man, has been sentenced to a decade behind bars after being found guilty of committing nine separate sexual offenses against women. The crimes, which spanned over a period of time, included assaults on a young girl aged just 12, as well as two 16-year-old girls and a woman aged 21.Deever, who resides on Alfred Street in Wigan, was brought to justice following a series of revelations that led to his arrest and subsequent trial at Liverpool Crown Court. The proceedings revealed that the initial disclosure came when one of his victims confided in her parents about her traumatic experience. This disclosure prompted the police to launch an investigation into the allegations.
As the investigation progressed, three additional women, all of whom had been assaulted by Deever, came forward to share their own experiences. Their testimonies provided crucial evidence that supported the case against him. Throughout the trial, Deever maintained his innocence, denying all charges and claiming that the women had fabricated their stories.
Despite his denials, the court found sufficient evidence to convict him of the nine sexual assault charges. The judge, Sean Duncan, delivered a stern sentence, emphasizing the severity of Deever’s actions and the impact on his victims. In addition to the prison sentence, Judge Duncan ordered Deever to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, a measure designed to monitor and prevent further offenses.
This case highlights the importance of victims coming forward and the justice system’s role in addressing such serious crimes. The community of Wigan and Greater Manchester can now be assured that Deever will serve a significant period in prison, reflecting the gravity of his offenses.
