JOHN DAVIES OF COLWYN BAY SENTENCED TO 24 YEARS FOR CHILD SEX ABUSE IN PRESTATYN AND BEYOND

In a significant case that has shocked the community of Colwyn Bay and the surrounding areas, John Davies, a former children’s home worker, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 24 years for a series of heinous sexual offenses committed over several decades. The court proceedings, held at Mold Crown Court, revealed a disturbing pattern of abuse involving multiple victims spanning from the 1970s through the 2000s.

John Clifford Davies, who resides on Abergele Road in Colwyn Bay, faced a total of 12 charges related to sexual misconduct. These included allegations of rape, indecent assault, and indecency with a child under the age of 11. The earliest charges stemmed from the 1970s, when Davies was accused of two counts of rape and three counts of indecent assault. The trial also uncovered allegations that he had engaged in sexual acts with a teenage girl in 2007, for which he was convicted of one count of rape and two counts of sexual assault. However, he was acquitted of a separate rape charge concerning the same victim.

Throughout the legal proceedings, Davies maintained his innocence, denying all allegations and claiming that the victims’ accounts were fabricated. Despite his denials, the court found the evidence against him to be overwhelmingly compelling. Judge Rhys Rowlands, presiding over the case, sentenced Davies to 24 years in prison, with an additional year on extended licence. As part of his sentence, Davies is also required to register as a sex offender for life, a measure designed to monitor and prevent further offenses.

The court heard distressing details about Davies’s interactions with a young girl while he was employed at a care home in Prestatyn. It was revealed that he had befriended the girl, taking her to pubs and buying her drinks, actions that initially made her feel flattered. However, the situation took a dark turn when Davies drove her to a secluded location and committed a sexual assault. The victim was able to describe his house in detail, indicating her familiarity with his residence. The court was told that Davies had also taken her to his home, further illustrating the breach of trust and the severity of his actions.

Judge Rowlands emphasized that Davies had been convicted “on the most compelling evidence,” underscoring the gravity of his crimes and the impact on the victims.
