ESSEX MAN JAILED FOR 19 YEARS FOR CHILD SEXUAL OFFENCES
A man in his sixties has been sentenced to 19 years in prison after being convicted of child sexual abuse.
John Darby, aged 66 and residing on Thames Road in Grays, Essex, appeared before Basildon Crown Court on Thursday, where he was found guilty of 14 sexual crimes involving a minor.
Essex Police stated that Darby began assaulting his young victim when she was just seven years old, during his work at a Thurrock Yacht Club that provided sailing lessons to children.
After his arrest, Darby denied the accusations in a police interview.
Detective Inspector Emma Portfleet commended the victim for her courage and perseverance during the investigation, emphasizing the lasting impact such crimes have on survivors.
