RAPIST THREATENED TO THROW WOMAN OFF TUNISIA HOTEL BALCONY

A man responsible for suffocating a woman, urinating on her, and threatening to throw her off a hotel balcony during a holiday has been sentenced to 21 years in prison.

The attack occurred in a hotel room in Tunisia in January 2025, during which Alex Owers' victim lost consciousness.

Following the incident, Owers was detained upon returning to the UK after the woman revealed he had repeatedly assaulted and raped her.

In August 2025, Owers, aged 46, was convicted on charges including one count of intentional strangulation, two of suffocation, and two of causing actual bodily harm.

Additionally, a retrial at Grimsby Crown Court in April led to his conviction on five counts of rape.

During sentencing, the woman voiced her ongoing fear, saying, “Even though you’re imprisoned, I barricade all my doors out of fear that you have escaped and will come to kill me.” Humberside Police reported that Owers had placed a pillow over the victim’s face and strangled her until she lost consciousness during the January 3, 2025, assault.

He then supposedly dragged her back into the room when she tried to escape and struck her in the ribs.

Authorities confirmed that Owers urinated on his victim and threatened to toss her off the balcony, allegedly aiming to make her death appear accidental.

The investigation was initiated after a third party reported the incident.

Owers was apprehended by Essex Police at Stansted Airport.

Along with his prison sentence, he has been issued a lifelong restraining order and will remain on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely.

The victim stated in a press release that she nearly died during the attack, sharing, “I still feel your hands around my throat and the pillow over my face.

You held me against my will and subjected me to three hours of pure hell and suffering.

That night haunts me to this day, and I live in constant panic, jumping at every little noise, fearing you might come back to finish what you started.” Detective Constable Sam Atkinson condemned the acts, describing them as “appalling and deeply violating,” emphasizing the severe abuse and assault that disregarded her dignity and safety.

He also praised the victim’s bravery in coming forward and enduring the court process.
