JOHN CHALKER'S SHOCKING REVELATION IN TORQUAY: CHILD RAPIST BUSTED AFTER PRETENDING TO BE A COMMUNITY MEMBER
In August 2021, a disturbing case unfolded in Torquay involving John Chalker, a 74-year-old man with a troubling past.Chalker, who resides on Melville Lane in Torquay, had previously served an 11-year prison sentence for child rape offences.
Despite his incarceration, he was still under a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) designed to restrict his contact with minors.
However, he violated these strict conditions by engaging with families and children in the local community.
Chalker approached a mother of a three-year-old boy, offering to give her lifts, all the while concealing his criminal history.
Additionally, he engaged in conversations with the children of another woman, without disclosing his past or the existence of the SOPO.
His interactions took place in various locations around Torquay, raising serious concerns about the safety of local residents and the effectiveness of the supervision measures in place.
Authorities from the police’s public protection team became suspicious after discovering that Chalker’s Facebook profile listed parents of young children among his friends.
This prompted a thorough investigation, during which police traced two mothers who had unknowingly associated with him.
Both women expressed their shock and distress upon learning about Chalker’s criminal record and the breach of his SOPO.
They had no idea that he was a convicted sex offender and were horrified to find out that he had been in contact with their children.
One mother, who lived nearby, recounted how she had previously seen Chalker as a respected member of the community.
Her perception changed drastically after police visited her and revealed his true background.
She and another mother confirmed that Chalker had spoken to their children, aged seven and nine, about football as they passed his house, further illustrating the potential risk he posed.
Chalker admitted to two breaches of his SOPO during a court hearing at Exeter Crown Court.
Recorder Mr.
Donald Tait sentenced him to 30 days of rehabilitation activities and mandated his participation in a sexual offenders’ treatment programme.
The court also imposed a three-year community order, emphasizing the importance of ongoing supervision and monitoring.
In his remarks, Recorder Tait expressed concern about Chalker’s potential danger to children, stating, “My principal concern is the protection of the public and young people from you.
I consider you to be a potentially dangerous individual, so far as children are concerned.
If this order is breached, then you will be brought straight back here and there will be only one alternative, which will be prison.” Police officer Mr.
Lee Bremridge explained that the investigation was initiated after a routine check on Chalker’s Facebook account.
The review led to the discovery that he had been giving lifts to individuals without disclosing his past, in violation of the SOPO.
The police’s efforts uncovered the extent of his contact with local families, revealing the need for stricter oversight and community awareness to prevent similar incidents in the future.
