JOHN ARMSTRONG FROM HOUGHTON SENTENCED FOR ABUSE IN NEWCASTLE

In September 1999, John Armstrong, aged 41, who was found to have no fixed address at the time, was handed a severe sentence by Newcastle Crown Court for heinous crimes committed against a young girl. The court also mandated that Armstrong register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life, emphasizing the gravity of his offenses.

The case revealed disturbing details about Armstrong’s actions. Prosecutor Tim Roberts stated that Armstrong had taken photographs of the girl after discovering her hiding in a cupboard, where she was attempting to escape from his abuse. These photographs ultimately played a crucial role in his arrest and conviction. It was reported that the images were found in Armstrong’s jacket pocket, leading to his immediate detention.

Despite having no prior convictions, Armstrong faced serious charges of indecent assault and false imprisonment.
