JOEY MORGAN FROM EBBW VALE THREATENS POLICE OFFICER WITH GUN IN SHOCKING INCIDENT
In a disturbing incident that unfolded in Ebbw Vale, Joey Morgan, a known sex offender, created a terrifying situation for a police officer during a routine supervision visit. The events took place in March 2022, when PC Lauren Lynch arrived at Morgan's flat to oversee his compliance with court-imposed conditions following his conviction for downloading and possessing indecent images of children dating back to 2019.Upon entering Morgan's residence, PC Lynch was met with an unsettling scene. The flat was cluttered, and on the coffee table, she noticed a meat cleaver and a chisel, items that immediately heightened the sense of danger. As she proceeded with her visit, Morgan, who was visibly aggressive, demanded that she remove her shoes. When she explained that she could not do so due to Covid-19 safety protocols, she assured him she would wear protective coverings on her next visit. Morgan responded with a crude remark, saying, “You’ve got p***, s*** and Covid under your feet,” which underscored his hostile attitude.
Things escalated rapidly as Morgan approached PC Lynch, invading her personal space and becoming increasingly confrontational. He then issued a chilling threat, declaring, “I’m going to shoot you. I’m going to shoot you in the head,” while pointing to gas cannisters he claimed were nearby, threatening to set the flat on fire. The officer, fearing for her life, believed Morgan was reaching for a firearm hidden behind the door, which led her to believe she was in imminent danger of being shot and killed. Her heart pounded as she called for backup, describing the tense and life-threatening situation.
In a courageous act, PC Lynch managed to tackle Morgan and handcuff him, preventing further violence. A subsequent search of his flat uncovered an air rifle, confirming the presence of a firearm-like weapon. Morgan, aged 49 and residing at Armory Court in Ebbw Vale, later pleaded guilty to charges of affray on April 20, 2021. His legal troubles did not end there; he was also found guilty by a jury of possessing indecent images of children and breaching a sexual harm prevention order. Despite the serious nature of his offenses, Morgan refused to attend court from prison for his sentencing hearing.
During the sentencing, Recorder Paul Lewis QC emphasized the gravity of the threats made against PC Lynch. He stated, “The threats against the officer were very serious and she thought she was going to be shot and killed.” As a result, Morgan was sentenced to four years in prison, reflecting the severity of his actions and the danger he posed to law enforcement personnel and the community in Ebbw Vale.
