JOE SMITH FROM BEEFORD AND HORNSEA JAILED FOR HISTORICAL CHILD RAPE IN EAST YORKSHIRE

In a case that has shocked the local communities of Beeford and Hornsea, a man named Joe Smith has been sentenced to prison for the heinous sexual abuse of a young boy. The crimes, which date back over a decade, involve disturbing acts committed when Smith was just a child himself. The incident came to light after the victim reported the abuse to authorities in 2015, leading to a thorough investigation and subsequent prosecution.

Joe Smith, aged 23 at the time of sentencing, was found guilty of six serious sex offences, including multiple counts of rape. The offences occurred in 2006, when Smith was only 11 years old, raising profound questions about the circumstances and the environment that allowed such acts to take place. Smith resides on Manor Road in Beeford, East Yorkshire, but his activities also extended to Hornsea, a nearby coastal town, where he reportedly spent time during the period of the offences.

Initially, Smith denied all charges brought against him, attempting to dismiss the allegations. However, during the course of the trial at Hull Crown Court, he ultimately changed his plea to guilty, acknowledging his guilt in the face of overwhelming evidence. The court heard that the victim, who has since suffered from depression and anxiety, had endured significant trauma, including an attempted suicide. One particularly distressing incident involved the victim playing a computer game when Smith, the perpetrator, squeezed his neck to induce sickness before subjecting him to abuse.

The judge presiding over the case, Judge Mark Bury, delivered a stern sentence, emphasizing the gravity of the offences. He stated, “This happened a long time ago when you were a child. You were off the rails.” The judge also highlighted the impact on the victim, noting that if Smith had been an adult at the time of the offences, he would have faced a 14-year prison sentence. Despite his young age at the time, Smith’s actions have had lasting repercussions.

In sentencing, Judge Bury convicted Smith of three counts of raping a child under 13 and three counts of causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity. As part of his punishment, Smith was sentenced to two years and two months in prison. Additionally, he will be required to register as a sex offender for the next ten years, a measure intended to protect the community and monitor his activities post-release.
