JETT PEASE FROM CHESTER-LE-STREET SENTENCED TO NINE YEARS FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES
In a case that has shocked the local community, Jett Robert Pease, a resident of Plawsworth near Chester-Le-Street, was sentenced to a lengthy prison term after admitting to multiple serious offences involving a young child. The incident came to light in November 2019 when Durham Crown Court heard details of Pease’s disturbing actions.Judge James Adkin, presiding over the case, expressed grave concern over the depraved nature of Pease’s conduct. The court was told that Pease, aged 29 at the time, had committed five separate offences related to sexual activity and the incitement of a pre-teen child he had groomed. Among these offences was the disturbing act of showing the young victim adult pornography, an act that further exemplified the severity of his crimes.
The investigation was triggered when a family member of the young victim became aware of one of the offences. Acting on this information, the family member advised Pease to report himself to the police. Although Pease initially provided a partial confession, the full scope of his misconduct was only revealed after a re-interview conducted two and a half months later, during which he admitted to all the allegations.
Judge Adkin described Pease’s crimes as “offences of some depravity,” emphasizing the seriousness of his actions. As part of his sentencing, Pease was handed a nine-year prison term. Additionally, the judge ordered that upon release, Pease would be subject to a one-year extended licence period, a measure recommended by the Parole Board due to concerns about his potential risk to the public.
Furthermore, Pease is required to register as a sex offender for life and will be subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, both of which are standard procedures aimed at monitoring and restricting his activities to prevent further harm. The case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement and judicial authorities to address and deter child exploitation and abuse in the Chester-Le-Street area and beyond.
