JEAN RENOIR JANGA BURI POLICE OFFICER CAUGHT FILMING COLLEAGUES IN RENOIR JANGA BURY TOILET

In a disturbing case that has shocked the local community and raised serious concerns about privacy and misconduct within law enforcement, Jean Renoir Janga, a 36-year-old employee of Greater Manchester Police, has been convicted of secretly filming male colleagues in a staff toilet. The incident, which took place in 2017, has led to his sentencing and ongoing disciplinary proceedings.

Janga, who was assigned to the digital imaging unit of GMP, was found to have stored 11 videos on his mobile device, all recorded during September and October of that year. These videos captured male police staff members in the act of using the toilet, an invasion of privacy that has caused significant distress among the victims and the wider police force. The discovery of these recordings came after an internal investigation was initiated following a complaint, which subsequently identified multiple victims who were police personnel themselves.

On Friday, at Manchester Crown Court, Janga was handed an 18-month community order after being convicted last month on six counts of voyeurism. The court proceedings revealed the extent of his misconduct and the nature of the recordings, which were deemed to be for his own depraved sexual gratification. The judge emphasized the severity of his actions, noting that Janga had behaved in a manner that completely disregarded the standards expected of a police officer.

Representing the Crown, Brett Gerrity from CPS North West stated, “Janga has invaded the privacy of these males by filming them whilst they used the toilet for his own depraved sexual gratification. Janga denied the offences throughout the investigation and refused to accept his guilt in the face of the overwhelming evidence. The jury rejected his fanciful story as to why he had filmed males using the toilet and convicted him based on the evidence presented by the prosecution.”

Gerrity also expressed gratitude to the victims who provided evidence and victim impact statements during the trial, adding, “I hope today’s sentence will provide them with some comfort and reassure the public that the CPS will work with the police to build strong cases against sex offenders.”

As part of his sentence, Janga was subjected to a sexual harm prevention order and a sex offender notification requirement, both of which will remain in effect for five years. Additionally, he was ordered to forfeit his mobile phone, which contained the incriminating videos. The case has also prompted a misconduct hearing within GMP, where Janga’s actions are being scrutinized, and he faces further disciplinary measures. This incident has cast a shadow over the reputation of the police force in Bury and has raised questions about oversight and internal safeguards to prevent such breaches of trust.
